i just might have to go buy that Time magazine so that I may be sufficiently pissed and hopeful at the same time. Oh well, I'm used to being the "vegetarian freak" in my family (the butt of all my meat-eating brother's jokes) ... I'm not vegan either, though I do make an effort to avoid dairy and eggs when possible. Um...just thought I'd share...

time magazine usually pisses me off, and it should be in my mailbox later today. goody. you know, it's weird--i'm a vegetarian, but i have found that a) i've gotten more bad responses that good from my friends ("what do you MEAN you don't eat meat anymore???"), and b) being vegetarian is one of the easiest things i've ever done. then again, i'm the most minimal vegetarian i can be (eggs, cheese, fish, yay!). :-)

I eat basically the same as you. I buy soy cheese and milk, and egg replacer for my own cooking. I do not avoid homemade desserts that may have egg in them. I sometimes eat cheese in restaurants. I do avoid any meat, lard, broth, etc. I'm wondering if my parents will have the same "picky-picky" attitude as that article. I'm going to visit them this weekend. Wish me luck. Glad you're back.

Veg, you're back! Hope you had a good time.

I haven't found any recipes, mostly because I need to sit myself down with a cookbook and make a shopping list! It may wait until after we move and get a decent kitchen. Ours right now is sad and not conducive to beginning cooks. I am doing pretty well cutting out the meat, though. Well, not the fish. I love my sushi too much. And we went to the restaurant that has really fresh fish but just okay vegetables.

On the other hand, I've been eating lots of soybeans! Go me!

I've had something similar happen before. The nurse asked me if I'd had any fluids that day, and said I may be dehydrated. I had fasted, but was allowed water. They ended up taking blood from my inner forearm leaving me a lovely big black bruise. Geez, I'm not looking forward to my physical next week. I think the finger prick is worse, though. I hate that.

I used to be a professional bloodsucker. What you had there was a bunch of incompetants. If you suspect you've got a bad batch of tubes (vials) then you stop using that batch. And they would ALL be bad; ergo you wouldn't be able to pull blood from any of you. They went for your hand on the 2nd attempt?!? Never. You try the arm at least 4 or 5 times before you go to the hand. Oh and ALL the basic blood work tubes have a bit of fluid in them. Keeps the blood from clotting. Sorry you had to go thru that. Bunch of idiots.

Puppy chow is not just a white trash delicacy. I learned about it from our neighbor who are first generation Korean Americans and hot damn it's good stuff!
